This is began with a casual shot of a kid flying a dragon kite on Hampstead Heath.

The subject was first explored on a small canvas with a loose smeary use of paint,

(see detail views) which looked good enough to commit to a much larger size.

But going there I discovered I had to completely revise my original treatment - areas of flat sky that looked good in small translated to dull when enlarged.

Also the dragon kite just wasn't working, and after a number of wrong turns it became a jellyfish.
