Earth Friend (Sold)
Oil on canvas over marine ply
80x122cm
The Scarab is both humble and astonishing.
In the wild, within minutes of animal droppings hitting the ground the first scarab appears and gets to work, rolling up its steamy treasure and burying it underground where it feeds new plant growth, at the same time spreading the fertiliser evenly.
To orient themselves they periodically clamber to the top of their prize and scout the surroundings, apparently able to navigate by the sun at day and the milky way at night.
