I found out a while back that whales have a habit of sleeping in a vertical position, a fact I found compelling enough to make a painting of.     (There's a WIP video of the early stages of the painting, viewable  here  )

Trouble is, no one understood it - a vertical whale isn't recognizable. (What is it? Looks like rocks...?)

So I painted a dirty great whale over the top of it..
And I must admit it works a lot better.
